SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Brevard College men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2025 campaign with a competitive showing in a loaded field at the Eye Opener Classic in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The two races featured 239 total runners and NCAA Division I programs such as Clemson, East Tennessee State, Furman, and USC Upstate.
On the women's side, 127 runners competed in the five-kilometer event with five Tornados taking the course. Freshman Alison Williams led the Tornados in 91st place with a time of 23:30.5, followed closely by fellow freshman Molly Perry (94th, 23:41.4). Junior Ava Thrift came next (103rd, 26:04.2), followed by senior Victoria Sylvester (111th place, 29:57.1) and sophomore Carleigh Garrett (112th, 35:38.9).
In the men's competition, 127 runners, including five Tornados, competed in the eight-kilometer race. Sophomore Ethan Carlan led the charge for Brevard finishing in 95th with a time of 29:30.8, followed by sophomore Colbin Hill (100th, 30:07.9). Sophomore Matthew Harris crossed the finish line shortly after (104th, 30:32.6). Senior Owen Plucar (111th, 31:39.3) and junior Adin DeJesus (120th, 36:06.6) rounded out the Tornados.
Next up for the BC cross country program is the second annual Brevard College XC Classic on Friday, September 19 as the Tornados will host teams from throughout the region in Brevard, North Carolina.
