BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) and senior middle hitter Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) powered the Brevard College Tornados (4-14) to a 3-0 sweep of the North Greenville Crusaders (13-7), Tuesday evening in Brevard, N.C.
Lambert paced the Tornados attack with 12 kills for the game, hitting an astonishing .550 from the floor, while Cox powered down 11 kills of her own, finishing the game with a .429 hitting percentage.
In addition to the performance of Lambert and Cox, freshman outside hitter Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) recorded nine kills, hitting .308 for the match, while junior Rachel Ruble (Advance, N.C.) notched nine kills of her own.
Junior setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) recorded a game-high 42 assists, contributing seven digs and one of the teams four blocking assists. Senior libero Aleksandra Vrvilo (Beaverton, Ore.) recorded a game best 18 digs, while juniors Bri Vargas (Maryville, Tenn.) and Maggie Weiss (Clemmons, N.C.) also recorded double-digit scoops with 12 apiece.
On an evening where the Tornados hit an impressive .289 as a team for the game, Brevard used a .268 hitting percentage in the opening set to roll off a 25-22 set victory. As Lambert, Cox, Chappell and junior Hannah Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) finished the set with three kills apiece.
Brevard would not slow down in the second set, hitting .236 for the frame, jumping out 13-9 on the Crusaders to open the set, before rolling off a 8-5 run to take a commanding 21-14 lead. The Tornados would capitalize on two North Greenville attack errors and kills by Lambert and Elmore to earn a 25-19 set point.
The Tornados used a .406 hitting percentage in the third and final frame, rolling off their second-consecutive 25-19 set victory. Benefiting from five kills from Ruble and Lambert, along with four kills from Cox to earn the 3-0 victory.
Brevard will look to carry Tuesday's momentum into this coming weekend as they travel to Salisbury, N.C. on Friday October 14, for a conference matchup with Catawba, followed by a showdown with Queens on Saturday, October 15.
