BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard Men's Soccer Team (6-5-1, 2-4 SAC) lost 1-0 to the current number six team in the nation, Wingate, (9-0, 7-0 SAC) on Homecoming weekend.
The Tornados played extremely well as they held the Bulldogs to only one goal during the match. Wingate's lone goal would come in the first half, off a free kick from the left side of the field, about 20 yards back, by Jon Ander. Goal Keeper, Heath Turner (Kansas City, Mo.) would keep the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the game, finishing the day with seven saves.
Brevard had a great opportunity to score with six minutes left in the game as Senior, Ryan McPhillips (Glasgow, Scotland) would receive a pass from across the field, and send a shot that just missed to the lower, right corner of the goal.
The Bulldogs would outshoot Brevard 17-7 for the night. Jon Ander would lead the team as he took seven shots with three of them being on-goal. The Tornados were led by Junior midfielder, Gabriel Garcia (Vinhedo, Brazil) who would finish the day with three shots. Garcia, Ryan McPhillips, and Rhem Stubbs (Huntersville, N.C.) would each attempt a shot on goal.
Before tonight's game, the brand new turf field was dedicated. During the ceremony, Senior captain, Winston Haddock (Mooresville, N.C.) shared his appreciation for the field being completed during his senior season, and what the new field means to the team.
The Tornados will travel to Greeneville, Tenn. for their next conference match as they take on the No. 10 team in the country, Tusculum College, Wednesday Oct. 12, beginning at 7:30 pm.
