BREVARD, N.C. - Freshman Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) finished tied with a game-high 16 kills as the Brevard College Tornados (3-14, 3-8 SAC) fell by a final of 3-1, Saturday afternoon to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (13-2, 10-1 SAC).
Chappell finished the matchup with a .250 hitting percentage and nine digs, while junior Rachel Ruble (Advance, N.C.) recorded 10 kills. In addition to Chappell and Ruble, junior Hannah Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) and sophomore Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) finished with nine kills apiece. Lambert complied a .474 hitting percentage for the match, while senior Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) posted eight kills.
Junior setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) recorded 45 assists for the match in addition to 11 digs, while senior Aleksandra Vrvilo and junior Maggie Weiss (Clemmons, N.C.) each recorded double-digit scoops with 12, apiece. Weiss also posted a game-high four service aces for the contest.
Both Brevard and Lincoln Memorial opened the afternoon on a hitting tear as the Tornados posted a first set hitting percentage of .300, while the Railsplitters contributed a .333 percentage of their own. Brevard would benefit from a high percentage, opening the set on a 10-5 run. Lincoln Memorial evened the match at 15-15, before taking an opening frame 27-25 victory.
The second set would be all Tornados as the blue and white began on a 17-9 run, benefitting from a pair of kills by Cox and Lambert and kills by Ruble and Chappell to earn a 25-19 set point.
Lincoln Memorial capitalized on a .333 hitting percentage in the third set, taking a 25-21 set point, before closing out the afternoon in the fourth set with a 25-17 win.
The Tornados will look to pick up their first non-conference win of the year October 11 as they host North Greenville University at 7 p.m. for the final non-conference bout of the year.
