TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Volleyball team (3-9) fell by a final of 3-0, Tuesday evening to the North Greenville Crusaders (10-4), as two consecutive .300 plus hitting sets for the Crusaders proved to be the difference in the match.
Offensively, the Tornados were led by freshman Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) who ended the night with a team high 11 kills, while junior Hannah Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) was the only other Brevard player to record double digit kills in the effort with an even 10.
Junior setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) recorded 30 digs against the Crusaders, while fellow specialist Aleksandra Vrvilo (Beaverton, Ore.) wrapped up the evening with a game high 18 digs, edging out North Greenville's Ashlyn Wilkinson by one kill for the honors.
The Tornados and Crusaders would open the evening with a highly contested opening set as both squads battled point-for-point throughout the opening frame before North Greenville was able to put together two consecutive kills by Haley Hester and one by Brittany Tepedino to take a 26-24 opening set win.
The second set of the match would be all Crusaders as they jumped out to a 12-7 lead before rattling off a 13-5 advantage to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the third frame of the evening. Brevard would battle back in the third point, tying the set a 20-20 before eventually dropping the point 25-22 and the game 3-0.
Brevard will look to bounce back this coming weekend as they travel to Hartsville, S.C. on Friday, September 30 for a 7 p.m. showdown with Coker, before ending the weekend with conference powerhouse Wingate at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
