SALISBURY, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados (2-13, 0-8 SAC) posted three players with double-digit point totals in an 81-46 loss to the Catawba College Indians (10-4, 4-4 SAC) Sunday afternoon in Salisbury, N.C.
Junior Shelby Parris (Burlington, N.J.) paced the Tornados with 12 points, while tying a game-high seven rebounds. Freshman JaMarquis Johnson (Minneola, Fla.) came off the bench to score 11 points, while junior Stevie Williams (High Point, N.C.) added 10 points and a game-high three steals.
Catawba forward KJ Arrington finished with a game-high 24 points, while RJ Robinson and Jerrin Morrison scored 11 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench.
The Indians would open the afternoon on an 18-4 run, before Johnson connected from three-point range, trimming Catawba's lead to 11, while D.J. Bostick (Marietta, Ga.) added a layup off a Levi Lamb (Atlanta, Ga.) steal on the Brevard's next possession narrow the lead to nine points.
Following the Tornados run, Catawba closed out the first half on a 22-5 run, taking a 43-20 advantage into the 15 minute intermission.
Similar to their first half fashion, the Indians opened the second half shooting well from the floor, leading by as many as 37 points, as the Tornados would battle to cut the gap throughout the remainder of play.
The Tornados return to Boshamer gymnasium this coming Wednesday and Saturday as they host a pair of South Atlantic Conference foes in the Carson-Newman Eagles, January 11 at 6 p.m., followed by the Newberry Wolves, January 18 at 4 p.m.
