BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College junior goalkeeper
Abby Nunez was selected as the USA South Conference Women's Soccer Defender of the Week after posting a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Piedmont University last Wednesday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Nunez, the reigning USA South Goalkeeper of the Year, stopped all three shots on-target taken by the Lions last week. In addition to her work between the posts, the Homestead, Florida product took four total shots – including two on-target – on free kicks for Brevard.
Over the span of her three seasons at Brevard, Nunez has accumulated a 13-2-4 overall record, allowing only five goals in over 1,700 minutes of on-field action. The junior has maintained a career save percentage of 91.5, and has a 0.26 goals-against average with 54 career stops in goal. Additionally, Nunez has recorded 12 shutouts in her career, and has two career goals and two career assists.
The Tornados return to action on Tuesday at 5 p.m., facing Carolina University at Ives-Lemel Family Field ahead of their USA South Conference opener on Friday at 7 p.m. with a home match vs. Meredith.
