BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team earned three major awards and seven selections onto the USA South All-Conference Team for the second-consecutive season.
Mikayla Zvekan was selected as BC women's soccer's first-ever USA South Player of the Year, while goalkeeper
Abby Nunez collected Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season. Head Coach
Juan Mascaro rounded out BC's major awards with his second-consecutive nod as Coach of the Year.
Zvekan and Nunez were placed on the All-Conference First Team, joined by
Mikaela Edwards and
Mikayla Rubin.
Kinlee Mozley,
Kiara Porcelli, and
MK Smoak all earned All-Conference Second Team accolades, while
Julia Needelman was selected as BC's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Zvekan, a senior from Draper, Utah, has totaled a program NCAA-era record 20 goals with nine assists for a BC single-season high 49 points in 2025. Zvekan leads all players at the NCAA Division III level, with 10 of her goals resulting in game-winners for the Tornados. Throughout the course of the season, Zvekan has taken a total of 101 shot attempts with 59 shots on goal. The striker has scored multiple goals in four total contests this season with a pair of hat tricks.
Nunez, a junior goalkeeper from Homestead, Fla., earned 13 total win as a starter en route to another dominant season tending goal for the Tornado defense. Nunez becomes the first women's soccer student-athlete to be named USA South Goalkeeper of the Year in consecutive seasons. The third-year keeper recorded four solo shutouts and was involved in nine of BC's 13 total shutouts in 2025. Allowing just four goals in over 962 minutes of game action, Nunez carried a 0.37 goals-against average and made 33 total saves with a 0.892 save percentage. Nunez contributed an assist offensively and has taken 13 total shot attempts off of free kicks this season.
Mascaro, in his tenth year as BC's women's soccer head coach, collects USA South Coach of the Year accolades for the second consecutive season. This fall, he led his team to the program's second straight USA South regular season title, compiling a perfect 9-0-0 record. It is the second year in a row that the Tornados have finished conference play without a loss. Overall, Brevard concluded the regular season with a 16-0-0 record, becoming the first USA South women's soccer program to finish unbeaten and untied prior to postseason play since Maryville was 11-0-0 during the COVID-shortened spring of 2021 season. Prior to that, it was Greensboro in 2018 who also concluded regular season play 16-0-0. The Tornados led the conference with 13 shutouts during the regular season, allowing just three goals in 16 games played, good for a 0.19 goals against average.
Porcelli, a senior midfielder from Venice, Fla., has started in all 17 contests for the unbeaten Tornados in 2025, scoring three times with five assists, including the first goal in BC's tournament win over Salem. Porcelli matched the BC single-game record with three assists in the season opener, totaling 18 goals and 12 assists over the course of her 70-match career with the Tornados.
Mozley, a sophomore forward from Lexington, S.C., appears on the All-Conference team after earning Rookie of the Year honors last season. Reaching double-digit goals for the second-straight season, Mozley has racked up 10 goals with seven assists for 27 total points in 2025. The second-year Tornado has scored multiple goals twice, including one hat trick, and dished out three assists in a conference win over Greensboro (Sept. 23).
Edwards, a freshman defender from Holly Springs, N.C., made 17 appearances and 15 starts and was involved in all of BC's 13 shutouts defensively. The first-year Tornados assisted a crucial goal off a free kick in BC's 2-0 victory over Meredith (Sept. 19) and scored her first collegiate goal in the season finale vs. Pfeiffer (Oct. 29).
Rubin, a second-year midfielder from Boynton Beach, Fla., has accumulated a team-best 11 assists with four goals for 19 points, becoming one of the most proficient passers in the nation. Recording assists in eight of 16 matches this year, Rubin logged a season-high three assists against Carolina U (Sept. 16).
Smoak, a junior from Charleston, S.C., has continued her stellar play as center back for the Tornados, helping BC to 13 total shutouts this season. Smoak earns her second-consecutive All-Conference selection.
Needelman, a sophomore midfielder from Huntersville, N.C., has competed in all 17 contests for the Tornados, making 13 starts while notching a pair of goals.
The Tornados will continue their run through the USA South Tournament, hosting a semifinal match against no. 4 Mary Baldwin on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
